@Lee,

Thanks for the additional information. I still love my Tilt 2. I'll have to try that key mapper you recommended. Right now I'm running AE Button Plus, and I have the PTT button set to toggle the task manager and wifi, depending on how long I hold it.

Happy that bit of info was helpful, hope you flash a custom ROM at some point I know it can seem a bit daunting and I am sure you saw a "I bricked my phone help" threads, but those are almost always some one who does not read the recommended procedure. Having read this blog post you seem a fairly analytical guy (compliment in my little world) you would have no problems successfully flashing your phone (my favorite "cook" is twopumpchump great ROMs) no pressure but if you were sitting on the fence, pardon the pun just hoping to give you a push . also don't know if you are aware but there is a key mapper app for the rhodium found at this link

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=554240&highlight=keyboard

It allows you to map any hardware key (any!!) to whatever app or function for example I have the push to talk button mapped as my camera button works beautifully. Oh and if you don't have opera mini (not mobile) 5 beta, it is the fastest mobile browser out, buy far.

good luck

P.S. after writing all this I wonder if you still have a tilt II, ah well

Thanks for the tip about XDA-Developers. I've burned countless hours on there since October and found some fantastic free apps that I use on a daily basis.

I'm not brave enough to try a new ROM on a critical piece of equipment yet, but I've deleted the bloatware and made a few registry tweaks, and the phone is now running how I like (mostly).

I dont have my tilt II yet until next week so I can only comment on some of your general Win-Mo impressions. However I am not sure what version of Opera Mobile the Tilt 2 ships with but If it is 9.7 then it is probably using turbo mode (Server Side Compression) which could attribute to your problems. An alternative to Opera is Skyfire

http://www.skyfire.com/

It also uses sever side compression like the newer version of opera mobile however they have been doing it much longer, and for me have been more reliable it also has more robust flash support but I still Find Opera quicker I simply feel they have some ironing out to do with their "turbo" mode.

Also the real advantage at this point to Win-Mo in my opinion is the opportunity for customization I do not know if you have been to

http://www.xda-developers.com/

but if you really want to play with your phone this is the place it is fairly geeky and requires some reading on your part but this is the place for HTC phone tweaks and info

Hope you continue to enjoy your phone

I am currently using an 8925 that I purchased from a friend who hated it. I unlocked it an am using a really nice ROM I found through HF. So, now I'm ready to upgrade to the Tilt 2 and got the chance to save an extra $100 via the AT&T store bring my next cost to $149. BUT...Here's the catch...my data plan would go up from $20 to $30 a month just for net access on the phone. That dosen't include tethering which they want...are your sitting down....$60 a month and the usage is capped at 5gb. So, any value of the discounted hardware is sucked out by the up charges to my plan. I currently pay $20 for an unlimited plan on my tilt and tether to my hearts content. So, I guess the only option is to buy on unlocked on ebay and hope for the best. Anyone else have this experience?

@ Johnathan,

I'm glad that worked for you. You might also be interested to know that there are "splitter" adapters that allow you to charge an HTC phone and use a 3.5mm headset at the same time. This is useful, for example, if you want to use an HTC phone as your MP3 player in your car. Of course, with most cars now including bluetooth the 3.5mm connection becomes less important.

I actually agree with your review but there is one thing I want to point out. HTC has a strange looking USB plug on their phones but it does work with a standard mini-usb cable. Trust me, it will plug in and charge your phone. The reason for the strange shape is because of the additional contacts HTC uses for their custom accessories. This does not interfere with the mini-usb compatibility though.
